At the beginning of the conception and birth of Guangzhou Museum, a group of scholars and celebrities such as Xie Yingbo, Hu Yisheng, Huang Jie, Ding Yanyong, Gu Jiegang, Xin Shizhi, Luo Yuanjue and so on gathered in Yangcheng, planning and planning, so that Guangzhou Museum from scratch, development and growth. Today, Guangzhou Museum is a national first-class museum, listed in the National patriotic Education Base, Guangdong patriotic Education Base, Guangzhou patriotic education Base. This is undoubtedly the result of the joint efforts of several generations of colleagues. We will not forget Mr. Xie Yingbo, the founder of the Guangzhou Municipal Museum, Mr. Hu Zhaochun, the founder and curator of Guangzhou archaeology, Mr. Hu Gentian, the first director and famous artist after the founding of the People‘s Republic of China, and Mr. Mai Yinghao, a well-known Chinese archaeologist and honorary director of Guangzhou Museum in the 20th century. As well as those colleagues who have quietly dedicated and worked hard in various positions of Guangzhou Museum in various times.
Over the past 90 years, Guangzhou Museum has been the concern and love of people from all walks of life, and many people have donated most of their collections to the museum, including Mr. Rong Geng, Mr. Chen Danian, Mr. Ye Gongchuo, Mr. Deng Youtong, Mr. Li Zhangda, Mr. Ivan Williams, and so on. In the museum‘s books are also recorded the names of many donors, whose selfless donations, like a trickle, have become a major source of museum collections. So far, Guangzhou Museum has collected about 130,000 sets of collections through allocation, acquisition, donation and exchange, including archaeological excavations, handed down cultural relics, folk cultural relics and modern fine arts, and most of them are historical cultural relics with Guangzhou characteristics.
With the growth of the museum, our exhibition, education, cultural relics protection, information and other work has been effective, the scientific research team is gradually growing, and the academic atmosphere is becoming stronger. Our publishing achievements have become more and more fruitful. In the early days, Hu Zhaochun and Cao Chunting edited the Restoration and Preservation of Ancient Objects, Archaeological Excavation Methodology and Introduction to Ancient Jade. In the 1950s, Hu Gentian wrote the Historical Monuments of Zhongshan Port. In the 1970s, there was the Guangzhou Han Tomb, a pioneering work of Guangzhou archaeology compiled by Mai Yinghao and Li Jin. Since the 1990s, Our museum has successively published "Guangzhou History and Culture Atlas", "Guangzhou Old Shadow", "Chinese tea sets of the past dynasties", "Zhenhai Lou Shi Wen Atlas", "Sea trade relics - 18th to early 20th century Guangzhou export art", "19th century China export grass watercolor painting research", "Guangzhou custom - Guangzhou Museum Collection of Qing Dynasty China export heraldry porcelain", "Current Affairs Illustrated" and other books And gained a good social reputation.
As the saying goes, "dance pavilion, wind is always blown away by the rain", through the ages, the complicated affairs, always easy to fade and forget or even oblivion, really can precipitate the accumulation and spread the benefit, must be creative contribution and value in the cultural history. Guangzhou Museum, as the first public museum in South China, is one of the early modern museums in China with its advanced and effective philosophy and operation management. With the support of the museum, the Huanghua Institute of Archaeology was the earliest professional archaeological group in China, and its archaeological work and the founding of the earliest archaeological journal in China, the Journal of Archaeology, made Guangzhou one of the centers of archaeological activities at that time. At the end of the 1950s, the "Guangzhou History Exhibition" established by Guangzhou Museum systematically reflected the general situation of Guangzhou‘s urban history development, and was one of the few exhibitions of urban development history in the country at that time. It once represented the higher level of the display of domestic topographic museums, and was updated repeatedly and achieved better results. Guangzhou Museum led the trend in collecting export art categories of Qing Dynasty in Guangzhou, planning and organizing exhibitions on the theme of Maritime Silk Road, and related academic achievements. The original exhibition "Sea Trade Relics - Qing Dynasty Guangzhou Export Art Exhibition" has toured more than half of China and is still favored by people. All these are the "light" of Lingnan!
The reason why there is a dazzling "light of cultural museum" is because there is a "tower" of Chengji. The hard work and silent dedication of Guangzhou Museum colleagues over the past 90 years have contributed to the building of the pagoda. We have built the "tower" firmly and bathed in the brilliance of "light" together.
Guangzhou Museum relying on the national key cultural relics protection unit Zhenhai building set up, the area is small and cramped, can not be displayed in separate rooms, does not meet the needs of modern museum architecture, 1936 old president Xie Yingbo is concerned about this problem, now the construction of the new museum of Guangzhou is a major event in Guangdong Province, Guangzhou cultural museum construction. It is also an important measure of the Guangzhou Municipal Government to further highlight the style of Guangzhou‘s historical and cultural city and build a demonstration city of socialist cultural power in the new era. It will also be a milestone in the development of Guangzhou‘s cultural and museo industry. A large-scale and well-equipped modern museum on the bank of the beautiful Pearl River is ready to be built.
Zeng Zi said, "A scholar must not be vain! There is still a long way to go." Cultural heritage work is a social public welfare undertaking to preserve relics, inherit traditions and carry out publicity and education. Those who are interested in this way will insist on hard work and silent dedication. Cultural work is a difficult and complicated work, it is impossible to create a "hot spot" and "effect" in a short period of time, we must work hard and hard to achieve our ambition. I am sincerely grateful to our predecessors and colleagues who have been working side by side, leaving traces of geese, flowers and incense, and our efforts and achievements will be forever recorded in history.
