In the early morning of August 1, 1927, a gunshot pierced the silent night sky of Nanchang City. The Former Enemies Committee of the Communist Party of China [14], with Zhou Enlai as secretary, Li Lishan Yun Daiying and Peng Pai as members, and He Long, Ye Ting, Zhu De and Liu Bocheng, led the Northern Expeditionary Army under the control or influence of the Party to hold an uprising in Nanchang. After several hours of fierce fighting, the defenders were wiped out and the city of Nanchang was captured.
Although the troops of Nanchang uprising suffered great losses, this uprising has great historical significance. It fired the first shot of armed resistance against the Kuomintang reactionaries, marking the beginning of the Communist Party of China‘s independent creation of a revolutionary army and leading the revolutionary war. It is like a spring thunder, so that the Chinese people saw the torch held high in the darkness, pointing out the direction of the Chinese revolution.
On July 11, 1933, the Provisional Central Government of the Chinese Soviet Republic decided to take August 1 as the anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Workers‘ and Peasants‘ Red Army. Since then, August 1 has become the Founding Day of the Chinese Workers‘ and Peasants‘ Red Army and later the Chinese People‘s Liberation Army. On August 1 of that year, the first "August 1" commemorative activities were held in the Red Army Square in Ruijin Yeping, and the Red Army parade and separation were held in the evening in Zhuma Gang, south of Ruijin City. Since then, August 1 has officially become the Army Day of the People‘s Army. Therefore, it can be said that Nanchang is the place where the military flag is raised, and Ruijin is the place where the August 1 Army Day was born.
